FURTHER LANGUAGES - English language

Academic Year 2025/2026 - Teacher: STEFANIA ALLEGRA

Expected Learning Outcomes

1) Knowledge and understanding;

2) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding;

3) Independent judgement;

4) Communication skills;

5) Learning skills.

The expected learning outcomes are defined according to the European parameters described by the five Dublin descriptors.

1.  Knowledge and understanding: students will acquire knowledge and understanding from a linguistic point of view in the four language skills, according to the parameters of ALTE and the Council of Europe, and sector-specific language of the English language, with reference to the degree course in Speech Therapy. In particular, they will develop awareness of the most relevant issues currently affecting the management of the four language skills of the English language.

2.  Applied knowledge and understanding: through the acquisition of B2 level English language skills and through the analysis of how to manage different channels of verbal and non-verbal communication conducted in class from an intercultural perspective, students will develop the ability to apply the knowledge acquired in work contexts and to manage interaction in the Speech Therapy.

3.  Autonomy of judgement: based on the knowledge acquired through lectures and exercises, students will develop a reflective approach to the role of communication, as well as linguistic-communicative practices and the understanding and management of Speech Therapy.

4. Communication skills: through lectures and exercises, students will develop, with the guidance of their teachers, a conscious use of both level B2 English and the sector-specific vocabulary that characterises the field of the Speech Therapy. Furthermore, through classroom discussion of topics related to verbal and non-verbal face-to-face communication, students will critically reflect on their current and potential communication skills, also with a view to integrating these skills with those included in the learning objectives of the degree programme.

5.  Learning skills: with reference to the topics covered in class, students will be shown the lines of research that are of interest to them and the related bibliographic sources, so that – during their future academic and professional careers – they can independently and consciously undertake further studies in their degree subject.

Finally, the expected outcomes are English language skills at level B2 and the ability to address specific and specialised topics related to speech therapy produced in L2 at level B2.
