Academic Year 2025/2026 - Teacher: IGNAZIA TIZIANA EMMIExpected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the Glottology and Linguistics module, in line with the Dublin Descriptors, and thanks to the workshop approach adopted in the course, students should be able to achieve the learning outcomes described below.
1. Knowledge and understanding
Students will learn the theoretical foundations for a “scientific study” of languages and language. They will understand the mechanisms of production and perception of human speech sounds (phonetics) and the criteria for organizing the relevant sounds of a system (phonology), with specific attention to Italian and its main varieties.
2. Applying knowledge and understanding
Students will be able to describe and analyze the sounds of human speech and phonological systems, particularly in Italian, applying the knowledge acquired to the observation of linguistic data relevant to speech therapy practice.
3. Making judgements
Students will develop the ability to recognize and critically evaluate basic phonetic-phonological phenomena, distinguishing between typical linguistic usage and aspects that may be clinically relevant.
4. Communication skills
Students will be able to describe the phonetic and phonological phenomena observed clearly and using correct terminology, employing language appropriate to educational and pre-professional contexts.
