Expected Learning Outcomes

The English language course for Nursing students (second year) at level B1/B1+ will focus on reviewing basic grammatical knowledge, consolidating existing communication skills, and developing the professional language skills (ESP) necessary to:


communicate with foreign patients;

take medical histories and symptoms;

describe nursing procedures;

understand essential clinical documentation;

collaborate with other healthcare professionals.


The course will adopt a highly effective structure, combining:


· linguistic input;


· guided practice;


· role-playing;


· consolidation.


Students will practice using the specific micro-language of the nursing field, strengthening their reading and comprehension skills in scientific texts, articles, and documentation.

Required Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of the English language is required (level A1/A2).

Attendance is highly recommended

Detailed Course Content

Teaching will be delivered through lectures, multimedia programs, and laboratory activities.
The program will consist of activities aimed at developing/strengthening the four basic skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) and language use in various social interaction situations and on general and scientific topics, using a register appropriate to the work context, in particular:

Nursing Communication and Patient Admission

Hospital environments

Decription of Symptoms, Pain Assessment and Vital Signs

Hospital Procedures

Clinical Case Simulations

The fundamental elements of English grammar will be consolidated, starting with verb tenses (present, past, future), the use of adverbs, modal tenses, adjectives and pronouns, prepositions, and sentence structure.

Learning Assessment Procedures

The results achieved will be assessed through a single test of General Conversation, Reading Comprehension and the presentation of a passage relevant to the students' professional field.
