Margherita Ferrante graduated in Medicine and Surgery and Biology, is a specialist in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine and General Pathology, Full Professor in General and Applied Hygiene, Responsible for the Laboratory of Environmental and Food Hygiene (LIAA) at the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences and Advanced Technologies of the University of Catania, Director of the Complex Operating Unit of Hospital Hygiene of the University Hospital "Rodolico-San Marco" and Responsible for CT-ME-EN Integrated Cancer Registry. Member of the Environment and Health Task Force of the Ministry of Health. Member of the Regional Table of Coordination on Health and Environment Themes of the Regional Department for Health Activities and Epidemiological Observatory Service 9 "Surveillance and Epidemiology Evaluative" of the Sicily Region. Past coordinator of the Health and Environment working group of the Italian Society of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine (S.It.I.) and current member of the Restricted Board, Member of the Commission of the Contaminated Land Technical Committee (CTTC) and the Interdisciplinary Solid Waste Commission (CIRS), national consultative bodies of the Chamber of Deputies, Member of the Management Committee of Metals and Related Substances Specialist Group of the International Water Association (IWA) and Joint Editor of the newsletter of the same commission, Member of the Restricted Board of the Federation of European Societies on Trace Elements and Minerals (FESTEM) and member of the board of the Italian Association for the Study of the Elements Trace in Living Organisms ( AISETOV). Director of the Interdepartmental Research Center for the implementation of the Aquaculture and Bioremediation systems (CRIAB) of the University of Catania. President of the Quality Assurance Commission of the Degree in Medicine and Surgery and President of the first level Degree Course in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques of the School of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Catania. Coordinator of numerous Masters and Postgraduate Courses. Member of several Commissions and Regional Coordination Committees in the various Departments of the Sicilian Region. Member of the Faculty Board of the Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Catania and tutor in international doctorates. Present in the long list of scientific experts of the Ministry of Research and Ministry of Health as well as of the Sicily Region. Winner of numerous awards including: Merli Award for the Environment 2019, UROH Award 2021, ITWIIN Award 2022 for innovation. Author of over 800 works among books, book chapters, editorials, contributions, and abstracts at congresses and publications in national and international journals. Editor and Reviewer in numerous International Impacted Journals including Food and Chemical Toxicology and International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. It is a member of IWA, ISEE, CSIA / ATI / IUAPPA / EFCA, SAGE, IUPHE, EUPHA, FESTEM, AISETOV, S.It.I.
