Francesco Patti

Full Professor of Neurology [MED/26]

Francesco Patti was born in Acireale on 12th June 1958. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 1982 at the University of Catania. He completed his specialist training in Neurology in 1986 at the University of Catania and in Physiatry in 1990 at the University of Parma. He has been teaching at the University of Catania since 1988, as a clinical research fellow at first, and then as an associate professor. 

Currently, he teaches Neurology and Neurological Rehabilitation in several graduate courses at the University of Catania. Since 2016, he has been coordinator of the degree course in Rehabilitation Sciences in Healthcare Professions.

He has published over 450 research papers on international journals, cited more than 11000 times.

Among his hobbies and passions, he enjoys football and enology, and in 2019 he also obtained the International Sommelier diploma.

As evidenced by the list of publications reported in his CV, Francesco Patti started his research activity in 1981. Until about 1990, it was mainly focused on the fields of Neurochemistry and Neuropharmacology. After completing his specialist training in Neurology and Physiatry, his research activity was particularly oriented towards the field of Neurology, and notably towards Clinic Neurology, Neuroepidemiology and Neurorehabilitation. Since the mid-1990s, he has greatly boosted scientific research in the field of Multiple Sclerosis, mainly focusing on topics as quality of life, rehabilitation, epidemiology, prognostic factors, disease-modifying drugs and symptomatic treatments. Additionally, his scientific activity addressed other neurological disease, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, myasthenia gravis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders.
