Integrated Course: Pathophysiology and vegetative-visceral function clinic
Module Odontostomatology's Diseases

Academic Year 2025/2026 - Teacher: ANTONINO LO GIUDICE

Expected Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge and Understanding

Students acquire solid knowledge of odontostomatological diseases, including dysfunctional habits of the stomatognathic system and their clinical implications, with particular reference to those related to phonation, speech, and swallowing in developmental and adult age.

They will also be able to understand the clinical signs of malocclusions and dento-maxillofacial alterations that may interfere with oral functions relevant to speech and language therapy.

2. Applying Knowledge and Understanding

Students are able to apply the acquired knowledge in order to:

-       recognize, classify, and describe odontostomatological diseases and dental anomalies;

-       correlate oral clinical conditions with dysfunctional patterns of breathing, sucking, speech, and swallowing;

-       formulate basic diagnostic observations useful for the development of a functional speech and language therapy profile.

3. Making Judgements

Students develop the ability to critically evaluate clinical information and odontostomatological symptoms, reflecting on the functional implications of anatomical or pathological alterations within the context of speech and language assessment.

They will be able to independently formulate relevant observations and justify basic diagnostic decisions.

4. Communication Skills

Students are able to communicate clearly and professionally the results of their clinical observations, using appropriate technical terminology related to odontostomatology and speech and language therapy, both orally and in written form.

5. Learning Skills

At the end of the course, students will have the necessary foundations to independently pursue further study of odontostomatological topics through the consultation of specialized textbooks and scientific articles, as well as to integrate this knowledge into clinical and internship activities.
