Module obstetrical and Gynecological Nursing

Expected Learning Outcomes

1.Knowledge and Understanding

The course aims to provide theoretical knowledge related to the anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system, as well as the main areas of obstetrics and gynecology. Students will acquire knowledge of outpatient care pathways, pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, and the main gynecological clinical conditions, including HPV infections, urinary incontinence, fertility and infertility, contraception, and menopause. The main diagnostic tests, such as Pap smears, colposcopy, and hysteroscopy, will also be covered.The course also explores physiological birth and the main obstetric emergencies in the delivery room.

2. Ability to Apply Knowledge and Understanding

Students will be able to identify nursing care needs in obstetrics and gynecology, applying the knowledge acquired to patient care at different stages of life. They will be able to recognize clinical situations that require the involvement of other healthcare professionals and ensure the correct implementation of diagnostic and therapeutic prescriptions. Practical skills will be consolidated through clinical internships.

3. Judgment Skills

Students will develop independent judgment in assessing healthcare needs, integrating theoretical knowledge and clinical practice. They will be able to make appropriate healthcare decisions, recognizing the limitations of their intervention and seeking specialist advice when necessary. This skill is essential for the responsible practice of nursing.

4. Communication Skills

Students will acquire communication skills to establish and promote effective supportive relationships with women, couples, and families. They will be able to provide health education on topics such as pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, contraception, and prevention, using clear, empathetic, and professional language.

5. Learning SkillsStudents will develop independent learning skills that will allow them to continuously update their knowledge in obstetrics and gynecology. By integrating theory and internship, students will be able to critically deepen their acquired knowledge and adapt it to different healthcare contexts, progressively improving their professional skills.

Ability" to integrate, compare and apply the knowledge obtained thanks to theoretical teaching activities and individual study, in clinical nursing practice. Ability" to work in a group and promote this operating method.
