1 - Knowledge and understanding – The student must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- the fundamental elements of the psychiatric (mental status) examination;
- the semeiotics and psychopathology of the principal psychic functions;
- the main nosographic frameworks of psychiatric disorders according to DSM-5-TR and ICD-11;
- the basic principles of psychiatric treatments (psychopharmacological, psychotherapeutic, somatic, and rehabilitative);
- the organization of community-based psychiatric care and the functioning of the Mental Health Department.
2 - Applying knowledge and understanding – The student must be able to:
- apply theoretical knowledge to the analysis of psychiatric clinical cases;
- conduct an appropriate clinical and psychopathological assessment of the patient;
- recognize the main psychiatric and medical-psychiatric comorbidities.
3 - Making judgments – The student must demonstrate the ability to:
- critically evaluate psychiatric symptoms and their clinical significance;
- critically analyze clinical cases, integrating anamnestic, clinical, and diagnostic data;
- recognize the indications for compulsory health treatment (involuntary commitment) and the related ethical-legal aspects.
4 - Communication skills – The student must be able to:
- use appropriate and scientifically correct psychiatric terminology;
- present clinical presentations and diagnostic hypotheses in a clear and structured manner;
- communicate clinical information effectively in a healthcare setting;
5 - Learning skills – The student must demonstrate the ability to:
- develop autonomous and critical learning of psychiatric knowledge;
- integrate psychiatric knowledge with that of other medical disciplines;
- develop critical study skills useful for continuing the educational path;
- update their knowledge through reference texts and the teaching materials provided.
Course Structure
The lectures will be frontal, there will also interactive discussions about clinical cases. Mandatory attendance.
Required Prerequisites
Neuropsychopharmacology and medical comorbidity.
