Expected Learning Outcomes

To provide students with the knowledge and specific skills needed to competently, safely, and individually care for newborns, children, and adolescents in both hospital and community settings. To train nurses capable of caring for children and their families, taking into account the anatomical, physiological, psychological, and relational specificities of the different stages of development (from newborn to adolescent), in accordance with the principles of Family-Centered Care. In particular:

  • Understand the physiological and psychological development of newborns and children throughout the different stages of growth.
  • Recognize the main signs and symptoms of illness in pediatric age.
  • Be able to carry out a nursing process in pediatrics with specific nursing diagnoses.
  • Apply appropriate care techniques in neonatal and pediatric settings (e.g., monitoring vital signs, administering medications, assisted feeding, pain management, etc.).
  • Communicate effectively with the child and their family, adapting language according to age and context.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, respecting roles and actively contributing to the well-being of the young patient.
  • Promote health education and prevention for both children and their parents.
  • Understand the ethical, professional, and legal aspects related to pediatric care.
