Expected Learning Outcomes

The student who has completed the emergency medicine course must be able to recognize and promptly deal with pathologies that have an emergency-urgency nature. In this case, the studente must know how to set up a therapeutic and diagnostic work up on general topics such as dyspnoea, chest pain, abdominal pain, etc., examining the various differential diagnoses based on the presentation of symptoms and signs.

Moreover, the student must know the drugs, dosages and dilutions to be used in emergencies. The student must also know how to manage cardiac arrest with the fundamentals of BLS-D and notions of ACLS / ALS.

Clinical Pharmacology, Radiology, specialist systematic pathologies

- Approach to the emergency patient - urgency and diagnostics

- EKG, ABG


- Cardiac arrest (understanding of BLS-D and ACLS/ALS)

- Approach to the patient with chest pain

  + ACS

  + Acute p. edema

  + PE and DVT

  + Hypertensive emergencies

  + Other heart conditions

- Approach to the patient with dyspnea

  +  respiratory failure

  + Pneumonia

  + NIV

  + ASTHMA

  + COPD exacerbation

- Approach to the patient with abdominal pain

  + Digestive bleeding

  + Acute pancreatitis

  + Vomiting and diarrhea

  + Evaluation of acute liver injury

  + Obstructive uropathy

  + Acute kidney injury and indication for dialysis

- Toxicological emergencies

  - (benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, opioids, cocaine, ethanol, antiarrhythmics, CO poisoning)

- SHOCK and SEPSIS
