Academic Year 2023/2024 - Teacher: PAOLA DI MAURO

Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology of the external, middle and internal ear and of the central auditory pathways. Differential diagnosis of hearing loss in relation to the different subjective and objective audiometric tests used. Rehabilitative, prosthetic and surgical approaches in relation to both the time and age of onset, and the location and extent of the hearing pathology.

Course Structure

Frontal lessons.

The themes of the program will be discussed with the aid of slides and the proposed topics will be the subject of collective discussion and in-depth analysis on the basis of any questions that arise during the lessons themselves.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The verification of the achievement of the objectives set by the course involves the administration of an initial multiple choice questionnaire called "admission prerequisites"; an "ongoing" multiple choice questionnaire and a final oral evaluation exam.

Examples of frequently asked questions and / or exercises

1) Classification of hearing loss in relation to the audiometric graph

2) Objective and subjective audiometric tests: how and when to use them?

3) Diagnostic-instrumental process of childhood hearing loss

4) Medical, surgical and prosthetic therapy of otological pathologies
